BET CEO, Alex Russell, leads Surrey’s Inclusion RoundTable

10th May 2022

BET CEO, Alex Russell has been asked to lead Surrey’s school based equality, diversity and inclusion strategy. The RoundTable is the voice for school and setting leaders to champion and promote an inclusive high-quality education offer for every child and young person in Surrey, that will meet their individual needs.

The aims of the group are as follows:

  • To be the lead professional group in Surrey to champion and promote an inclusive high-quality education offer for every child and young person in Surrey, that will meet their individual needs post-school and beyond
  • To be an advocate and a voice for inclusion for school and EY setting leaders and speak openly about the challenges and opportunities it brings to school/setting leaders acknowledging their different contexts
  • To promote an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion that will support all children and young people to achieve their full potential within their educational setting
  • To recognise barriers and enablers to inclusive practice in schools and settings, and assist in developing initiatives to address these
  • To promote openness and transparency in our inclusion work as Surrey education leaders
  • To champion and promote the Surrey Inclusion Statement and to set the target that every school in Surrey will sign up to and fulfil the agreed Inclusion Statement
  • To act as a consultee to Surrey LA on all SEND matters and new developments in line with other stakeholder groups.

Alex is delighted to be asked to lead this group and believes that “this is the right challenge to take on and correctly reflects the priorities of the children and young people that we serve.” BET will be reporting on its progress in implementing its Single Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Scheme annually with the first instalment due in September this year.
