BET schools celebrate World Book Day

3rd Mar 2023

This week our schools have been celebrating World Book Day – a worldwide celebration promoting the love of books and reading marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

First created by UNESCO in 1995, World Book Day is enthusiastically celebrated in all BET schools with staff and pupils getting ever more creative each year. Activities across the Trust this week have ranged from decorating classrooms as a favourite book, impromptu teacher performances of favourite stories, fun quizzes, workshops and competitions…and of course lots of dressing up as favourite characters (or words), choosing of books and whole school assemblies!

With reading for pleasure found to be the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income (World Book Day charity website), the Trust is firm in its mission to encourage all BET learners to develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances that this will bring them.

BET Reads Lead, Clare Goldsmith said: 'World Book Day is such an important opportunity to further promote the excitement and joy that can be found in reading. Leading BET Reads across the Trust, I am thrilled to see the success of this week across our schools.'
